As with any surgical procedure, there are risks to consider. These may include bruising or bleeding (haematoma), scarring, temporary numbness or nerve injury, hair loss around incision sites, or skin healing issues. There is also a small risk associated with general anaesthesia, such as medical complications. To reduce these risks, strict safety protocols are followed, and you will be closely monitored by an experienced anaesthetist throughout the procedure.
Initial recovery usually takes around 4 to 6 weeks. Mild to moderate discomfort typically lasts a few days and can be managed with prescribed pain relief. Swelling and bruising are common but begin to settle within 1 to 2 weeks. Stitches or staples are usually removed after about one week.
Some scarring is expected where incisions are made, but these are carefully placed and discreetly hidden along the hairline and natural contours around the ears, making them minimally visible once healed.
Stitches are usually removed or dissolved within 1–2 weeks. Most people return to normal activities by six weeks, and breasts start to look and feel more natural between 6–12 weeks
You will start to see visible improvements within 4 to 6 weeks, with final results continuing to refine over 3 to 4 months. Results are long-lasting, although the natural ageing process will continue.
Before surgery, you will attend a pre-operative consultation where your procedure and medical history will be reviewed. Your surgeon will advise which medications to stop, including blood-thinning drugs, usually two weeks beforehand. On the day of surgery, you will be asked to wash your face and hair with a germicidal soap and avoid eating or drinking for at least eight hours before your arrival.
Before and after images of previous facelift and neck lift patients will be shared during your consultation to help you understand the potential results and set realistic expectations.
